Dr’s Recommend Pilates For Back Pain

Pilates,Tai chi,  and yoga were the exercises recommended by Renfroe and Howell to strengthen core back muscles and help with posture.

“One of the most important things in taking good care of your back is posture and developing your core muscles,” said Dr. Renfroe.

“And those exercises — the yoga, the Pilates, the tai chi — all work on posture and core muscles as a part of what they benefit.”

Fastest Growing Industries: Pilates-Yoga Studios…

Fastest-growing industries: Pilates-Yoga Studios, Solar Panels

Smartphones, burgers and oil wells may be big moneymakers, but they can’t compete when it comes to speed of expansion. The fastest-growing industries in the U.S. actually involve 3-D printers, solar panels, self-tanning products, Pilates and yoga studios and hot sauce.

So says a new report from research group IBISWorld, which measured industries based on their contributions to the economy, revenue growth and expected future performance.

In a season of rising gas prices, consumers and businesses are increasingly feeling the strain of dependence on fossil fuel. That’s why, according to IBISWorld, so-called “green” industries are doing so well.

Pilates After A Mastectomy

Pilates After A MastectomyResearch on the use of Pilates in female breast cancer patients has been encouraging.

A study reported in the April 2008 issue of “Physical Therapy” reported that Pilates showed a modest effect in improving shoulder range of motion and no adverse effects.

A second study published in the December 2010 “European Journal of Physical Rehabilitation Medicine” divided 52 female patients with breast cancer into two groups. One group performed home exercises plus Pilates, while the other performed only home exercises. The Pilates group showed improvements in functional capacity and fatigue.

P.J. O’Clair is a Stott Pilates master instruction trainer who has developed a Pilates program for breast cancer patients. O’Clair says the initial Pilates exercises for a breast cancer patient are breathing, pelvic rocking, scapula protraction and retraction, hip release, scapula elevation and depression, spinal rotation and hip rolls, butterflies, side-lying arm circles and cervical nods. These exercises incorporate the basic biomechanical movement principles of Pilates. As the patient improves, O’Clair recommends gradually adding low-load exercises to build strength.

Pilates Massively Helps Aussie Goalkeeper

“I`ve been doing the Pilates for about five years now and I feel it has helped massively. I feel really good and fit.”

The combined age of the goalkeepers on show at Craven Cottage this afternoon, is almost eighty!

Keeping goal for Tottenham will be forty year-old Brad Freidel whilst Mark Schwarzer, a mere spring chicken at thirty-nine, will be between the posts for Fulham.

But our Aussie keeper has nothing but respect for those who manage to prolong their careers and still provide a more than decent service between the sticks, remarking ahead of the clash,

“I`m not quite 40 yet, so I take offence to anyone putting me in the same bracket as Brad!”

“But he has been a fantastic goalkeeper and to continue at his age – as I like to say – is fantastic.”
